- The workshop was the fifth in a series of workshops aimed at building local government capacities on green growth and low-carbon cities in the Asia-Pacific Region. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the “green growth” concept, as well as about the Republic of Korea’s green growth policies and the Eco-Towns Model of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

- During the 11th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), Olivier de Schutter, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, stressed that indigenous peoples’ food rights were under "serious threat" given the increased pressure on their lands through food production, carbon credit schemes and the search for fossil fuels.

- At its 67th meeting, the CDM Executive Board considered various regulatory matters and adopted a measure aimed at extending the simplified modalities for demonstration of additionality for small-scale CDM project activities, in order to make small-scale projects more attractive. The Board also addressed the sustainable development co-benefits of projects.
- The recognition of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) by the Knowledge Center on Cities and Climate Change (K4C) provides new opportunities for the exchange of best practices and innovative initiatives on climate change issues in large cities.

- UNESCO-IOC, IUCN and Conservation International (CI) organized a side event on the margins of the Second Round of ‘Informal-Informal’ Rio+20 Negotiations titled "Blue Carbon: a Tool to Mitigate Climate Change and Preserve Key Marine and Coastal Ecosystems," which provided an opportunity to discuss and present a number innovative tools building on the work of the Blue Carbon Policy Framework.

- The Programme of Research on Climate Change Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation (PROVIA), a joint UN initiative, is inviting comments on its publication titled “PROVIA Guidance on Assessing Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation,” which aims to serve as an update of earlier Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Guidelines (1994) and the UN Environment Progamme (UNEP) Handbook (1996).
- The Programme of Research on Climate Change Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation (PROVIA), a joint UN initiative, has announced it has released draft listing of the global research vulnerability, impacts and adaptation, which aims to identify the major gaps in knowledge that currently form a barrier to policies of response to the challenge of climate change.

- The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) held meetings of their trust fund committees and sub-committees to review the programmes carried out to promote climate resilience, renewable energy and forests. Participants approved new projects and reviewed progress on existing initiatives in Tonga, Dominica, Yemen, Ethiopia, Chile, Nigeria, India and Brazil.
